Bicycle Leadership Conference – Session 1

Federal Infrastructure Funding is in Jeopardy
The first session was excellent, with a wonderful presentation made by former House Transportation Committee Chairman James Oberstar. The discussion summarized the great progress made over the 30 years in integrating bicycling into our national transportation system are at risk as the new Congress looks at budget cutting.
Mr. Oberstar noted that cycling is and should be highlighted as an important element of the American transportation mobility system and that funds allocated to support cycling are investments in a better environment and better health.

Have You Talked to Your Congressional Representative about Cycling?
Mr. Oberstar asked who in the audience had personally met with their congressional representatives about the importance of cycling. Unfortunately, the audience failed.
As i sit here at the conference reflecting on the ideas and debates, i think I have an interesting idea. Stay tuned!
